Time For A Career Change? Four "Must-Have's" For Aesthetic Providers Featured in MedEsthetics Magazine

Co-Authors: Kipper Doughty, Bree Black and Danielle Cobo

ESTABLISH A PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE ONLINE

It’s no secret that when you are job hunting, you will at some point be “Googled”, which means that you need a clean, professional online presence across social media platforms. Because it serves as your digital resume, LinkedIn is a must.

Make sure your profile is complete, up to date, and has a professional picture. Don't be afraid to ask current and previous colleagues to write recommendations on LinkedIn about their experience working with you. If you don’t have a professional photo to use across all social media platforms, consider investing in a shoot, which can make a huge difference in how well your digital introduction is received. For injectors, in particular, Instagram has become a wonderful platform to share your work, connect with patients/clients, and let your followers get to know you a bit. If you aren’t personally managing your social media accounts, you should be intimately involved in order to make sure it’s your voice that shines through. Your personal brand will follow you anywhere you go and is among one of your most valuable investments.

BUILD A PORTFOLIO BOOK

Make a lasting impression in your interview with a “portfolio” book (digital or print), including:

❏ Trainings and certifications you’ve completed

❏ Yelp and other online reviews

❏ Before and after photos

❏ Patient and social media following + highlights

❏ Revenue generated/Year-over-year growth

❏ Value statement about your vision and/or what you bring to a practice

HAVE PATIENCE!

Interviewing is like dating - it takes more than one impression to make a serious commitment. With higher position levels or larger corporations, you can expect 3-5 interviews throughout the process. For private practices, expect 2-3 interviews. Most will require a working interview, which is your opportunity to share your consultation and technical skills. Also, use this opportunity to see if the practice is a good fit for you. Before jumping into a new “marriage” with a potential employer, take time to write down what you are looking for in a long-term career. Explore all of your options and don’t make a move unless it checks at least most of your boxes.
